Silence

Speak Out

I feel ashamed that I don’t speak out more often, or say what’s really on my mind. There are times when the words just won’t come out, or I can’t find them. I can speak out on behalf of other people, but when it comes to myself or my own tongue, the words just don’t come out and then I feel angry with myself and with other people.

I am becoming more assertive, but it’s a work in progress. One which should have started years ago.

I think so many can relate – even to moments when we seem to freeze up. I’m wanting to offer you an exercise that I hear Martha Lawley share and it helped me to expand out of anger with myself into understanding and self trust, she said something like: ‘even when we freeze up, that’s a beautiful part of us that wants something good for us – probably safety. Thank it for its years of service to you, and listen deeply to what it wants to tell you. you will still choose what you do to learn and grow – with the fuller support of that part of you that has believed it wasn’t being heard or accepted or appreciated’. Does that sound fun and worthwhile to try?
